Judge allows UMG and Sony to accuse Suno of AI piracy
However, the judge denied the labels’ separate bid to add 61,026 recordings to the 560 already in suit Source
A judge has permitted Universal Music Group (UMG) and Sony to proceed with accusations that Suno, an AI music generator, engaged in copyright piracy by utilizing YouTube content for AI training. The ruling allows the music giants to pursue claims that Suno’s methods constitute unauthorized use of copyrighted material.
However, the court denied a request by the labels to expand the existing lawsuit, which currently includes 560 recordings, by adding an additional 61,026 recordings. This limitation means the case will proceed based on the initially specified set of alleged infringing works. Originally reported by Music Business Worldwide.
