Universal and Warner Argue 'New Use' Clause in AFM Agreement Does Not Cover AI Deals

Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group have filed new court documents asserting that the 'new use' clause in their agreement with the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) is unambiguous and does not extend to their agreements concerning artificial intelligence. The AFM had sued both companies in June, seeking a share of AI-related revenue for its members under the Sound Recording Labor Agreement. The music majors are currently seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed. Originally reported by Complete Music Update.
